Food Expo Greece 2017 welcomed more than 60,000 attendees from almost 100 different countries to the Metropolitan Expo, Athens, for what is considered one of the most important exhibitions for the food and beverage sector in southern Europe.
Some 1,200 national and international exhibitors took part in the fourth hosting of this event, which took place across an exhibition area of 45,000 square metres between 18 and 20 March.
A new initiative at this year's event was the Food Expo Greece-hosted buyer programme, which welcomed around 650 buyers (out of a total 2,500 in attendance) to take part in B2B meetings over the three days of the event. Thanks to this proactive approach, some 11,500 B2B meetings took place during the show.
Commenting at the event, Thanassis Gialouris, the vice-president of Forum SA, which operates Food Expo Greece, noted that the percentage of exhibitors that closed deals during the show's third iteration was up 49%, and those expected to do so within six months was as high as 93%. The organisers are confident of having beaten that total at this year's event.
This year, Food Expo Greece was held in conjunction with Oenotelia, the only specialised wine and spirits exhibition in Greece, which was organised by the Greek Wine Federation (GWF).
