The Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ) has said that there is now a 'light at the end of the tunnel' for businesses that were shut down due to the coronavirus, as the country seeks to loosen some retailer restrictions from Easter.


Spar Austria has introduced payment via voucher cards to reduce direct contact during payment, thereby simplifying shopping for risk groups during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.


Austria's economy will shrink 3.2% this year in the case of a "moderate" pandemic scenario, the country's central bank said, estimating that each week of lockdown cuts annual output by more than €2 billion.


Austria will require shoppers to wear basic face masks in supermarkets in a bid to slow the still too-rapid spread of the coronavirus, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has said.

Spar Austria has announced that its stores across the country have access to continuous supply of fresh food and its warehouses are fully stocked.
