Coca-Cola Invests €27.9m In Production Site In Ghent

Coca-Cola is investing €27.9 million in a new packaging line for cans in its production facility in Ghent, reports gondola.be.

Construction of the new facility will begin in January next year, and it is expected to be operational by the autumn of 2019.

It will have a production speed of 120,000 cans per hour, and will surpass the rate of consumption in Belgium, according to the report.

The facility in Ghent is one of the seven branches of Coca-Cola European Partners in Belgium, and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The production centre is already equipped with a glass packaging line, and two juice lines.

Coca-Cola aims to make all its packaging recyclable by 2025, and the investment in a production line for cans aligns with its objectives.

In November of this year, Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) announced a partnership with Loop Industries to purchase 100% recycled PET (rPET) plastic to accelerate the use of recycled materials in product packaging.
