Rewe Group Supports Sustainable Banana Production

Germany's Rewe Group has launched a new campaign to promote sustainable banana production in South- and Central America, donating 10 cents per sold kilo to a 'Banana Fund' it operates in these regions.

Rewe's 'Banana Fund' was established to fund social and ecological projects in banana-producing nations. The retailer hopes to lend some €1 million worth of supports to products in Costa Rica and Panama by the end of 2016.

An advisory board, consisting of representatives of Chiquita, Dole, Caritas and Rewe Group selects which projects will be supported. Independent associations supervise the applications as well as the selection process.

Since 2007, Rewe Group has financed projects in banana-producing countries.
