Netto Marken-Discount Pays €2.9m To Farmers As Part Of Fair Price Initiative

German retailer Netto Marken-Discount has paid around €2.9 million to farmers in 2019 as part of its fair prices initiative, 'Ein Herz für Erzeuger' (A Heart for Producers).

In 2008, the retailer pledged to pay fair prices to farmers through this initiative, in a bid to support German agriculture.

Products in the Ein Herz für Erzeuger range are 10 cents more expensive, with this amount going towards participating farmers, the company stated.

'Promoting Local Producers'

Christina Stylianou, head of corporate communications at Netto Marken-Discount, said, "The promotion of German farms and producers is a matter close to the heart of Netto.

"That is why we are promoting local producers with our initiative and thus actively strengthening our long-term partnerships in Germany."

Offering both standardised items and regional variants, the range includes fruit and vegetables, dairy products, eggs, meat and sausage products.

The initiative is also part of the retailer's sustainability strategy and involves partnerships with local and regional producers, farmers, bakeries and breweries.

It reduces the transportation of products from the producer to the distributor, thereby lowering its environmental impact.
