Caprabo Sees 6.5% Growth In Sales Of Local Products In 2019
Spanish retailer Caprabo has reported a 6.5% growth in the sales of local products in 2019, 20% higher than its forecast for the year.
Sales of products from small producers and agricultural cooperatives exceeded € 31.3 million in this period, the retailer added.
The fresh produce category saw significant growth in demand, with fruit sales increasing by 20%.
The good performance was driven by the sales of Lleida pear with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) seal, the Girona apple with a Protected Origin Identification (PGI) seal, and IGP clementine from Terres de l´Ebre, Tarragona.
Since 2014, the retailer’s product offering has incorporated approximately 2,600 products, from more than 300 small producers and agricultural cooperatives, through its Proximity Programme for Counties.
Since April of this year, the company has added nearly a hundred small producers and cooperatives to the programme as the agri-food sector has run out of its usual distribution channels due to the COVID-19 crisis.
