Poland Gets Its First Carrefour Bio Store

Carrefour Polska has announced that it has opened the country's first Carrefour Bio store in Warsaw.

The move is in line with the retail group's nutritional transformation strategy, aimed at addressing the changing needs of customers.

Carrefour Bio will be the first store in Poland with a primary focus on organic food items, the retailer claimed.

President of the management board of Carrefour Polska, Christophe Rabatel, said, "Carrefour's organic offer meets the recognition of buyers in Poland, as evidenced by its double-digit sales dynamics per year.

"We see the growing knowledge and expectations of customers in the area of healthy eating and a balanced diet. That is why we want to develop the Carrefour Bio concept in Poland and test stores in other locations."

The new store is spread across 153 square metres offering a wide range of fresh products, including vegetables and fruit sold by weight, meat, fish, as well as 2,200 packaged products, including wine and alcohol.

The store will offer around 250 Carrefour Bio own-brand products at affordable prices.

It will also offer around 50 loose products including cereals, macaroni, legumes, coffee, as well as a wide selection of dry fruits and nuts.

For tea and spice lovers, the outlet offers around 24 options in glass jars.

The store will also offer freshly baked bread, a selection of cold cuts, organic cheese, cakes, and delicatessen products in traditional counters.

In the non-food segment, the outlet offers a range of high-quality, natural origin cosmetics and eco-friendly detergents.

The store's 'Food to Go' zone offers a range of healthy snacks, soups, and bio sandwiches.

To prevent food waste and cutting the use of plastics, the store will allow customers to bring their own containers for products sold by weight.

Customers also have the option to directly order products from farmers via the LokalnyRolnik.pl platform and collect it from the store, the retailer added.

Organic Food

Poland will be the fourth country after France, Belgium, and Spain, where the retailer operates the organic store format.

Research shows that the main barrier to sales of eco-friendly items in Poland is the price, Carrefour said.

Most organic food products are more expensive than their conventionally produced counterparts.

The retailer seeks to democratise bio-products by providing consumers access to organic products at lower prices.

The retailer has also implemented measures aimed at strengthening its organic offer by providing high-quality food and supporting the development of organic farming in Poland.
