Aldi UK To Introduce Fully Recyclable Packaging For Own-Brand Cereals

Aldi UK has announced plans to introduce 100% recyclable packaging for its private label cereals by the end of this year.

The move will see the retailer replace the plastic inner bags containing cereals with a recyclable alternative.

Plastics and packaging director at Aldi, Chris McKenry, said, “Making such a popular product range fully recyclable will have a huge positive impact.

“Our focus is to offer quality at the lowest price on the market, and we believe that means more than simply offering great products – we have to provide customers with environmentally-sustainable options they can afford too.”

The initiative will help the retailer to remove 650 tonnes of non-recyclable plastic from its operations annually.

Aldi UK seeks to switch to recyclable, compostable, or re-usable packaging for own-brand products by the end of 2022.

In July, Aldi pledged to remove two billion single-use plastic items from its operations by the end of 2025.

It recently introduced several plastic saving initiatives, including the removal of single-use bags for loose fruit and vegetables across its UK stores by the end of the year.
