Italy's Consilia Sees Double Digit Growth

The summer months have driven sales of private label products in Italy, with store brand manufacturer Consilia registering double-digit growth in the first eight months of the year.

While overall sales of private label products in Italian hypermarkets and supermarkets during the first eight months of 2018 recorded 2.4% growth, Consilia saw a 12.8% increase in the same period.

The data was published by the Business Intelligence unit of the Consorzio SUN - Supermercati Uniti Nazionali, which incorporates local chains Italgros, Gruppo Gabrielli, Alfi (Gulliver), Cadoro and Gros - Gruppo Romano Supermercati.

In terms of categories, sales of Consilia branded beverages increased by 14% (-0.9% overall for the market); in fresh products, the growth was 12.9% (7%); in personal care it was 10.1% (-0.6%); in home care it stood at 6.8% (-3.4%) and in pet care, it stood at 12.7% (-1.4%).

In the month of August alone, the sales trend of Consilia branded products was +7.7% compared to +2.1% for the private label market as a whole.

During the period, Consorzio SUN increased promotion of its products with the renewed sponsorship of the TV reality show 'Grande Fratello VIP' (Big Brother VIP), with participants using Consilia products on the show.
