Aldi Nord Now Accepting American Express Credit Cards

German discounter Aldi Nord has announced it will now accept American Express credit cards as a form of payment at all its stores in Germany.

The retailer will accept American Express, including contactless payment, at its approximately 2,300 Aldi Nord stores in the country, it said.

The move comes two years after the discounter began accepting credit card payments with MasterCard and Visa at its stores. It said that these efforts will make it more convenient for customers to pay in a number of different ways.

Service Enhancements

"As part of our ongoing effort to deliver service enhancements to our customers, we are pleased to add another cashless payment option to our existing offering with American Express," said André Mohr, head of financial management at Aldi Nord.

Sonja Scott, member of the executive board at American Express Germany, with responsibility for partner acceptance business, added, "The integration of Aldi Nord into our network is another strategic step for us to promote our acceptance in the food retail sector.”

"In doing so, we are responding to our customers' desire to expand their payments with American Express, especially in the discounter sector," Scott said.

Aldi Süd became the first German discounter to accept American Express credit cards in July 2016.
