Madrid-born del Pozo Gil, 51, has been with the retail giant for more than 25 years. He is an engineer and an economist, and received his MBA from the Instituto de Empresa and his PDG from the IESE Business School in Barcelona.

Prior to this position, del Pozo Gil was the deputy director of purchasing. In December 2016, he became a patron of the Fundación Ramón Areces, which supports scientific research.

With his appointment, the company said it has reinforced its commercial management.
