Jumbo Supermarkets To Offer Employees Free Health Checks

Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo is set to roll out regular free health-checks, sports activities and fitness programmes for all its employees this year.

The company is also providing free fruit at the canteens of its stores, distribution centres and headquarters in a bid to promote a healthy diet among its personnel.

Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, director of formula and innovation at Jumbo, explained, "Offering healthy foods to our customers is our key goal. But it is equally important to us that our employees feel healthy and energetic, since your work clearly benefits if you are feeling well. Regular health check-ups can contribute to that."

Additional free training programmes have  been introduced to help employees, who work at Jumbo's distribution centres, to quit smoking ('Smoke-free! You too?') and to familiarise all 65,000 employees with the latest version of the Schijf van Vijf (Food Pyramid), the Dutch Health Board-approved guide to a healthy diet.
