Rugby Six Nations And Super Bowl Lift Sales At Waitrose

UK retailer Waitrose has said that the twin sporting events of rugby’s Six Nations and the Super Bowl helped lift sales of beer and drinks mixers in the past week.

According to the retailer, beer sales were up 5%, ‘ready to drink’ can sales were up 24% and drinks mixers were up 33% compared to the same period last year.

In addition, snacks saw a rise - packets of nuts were up 17%.

The cold snap also led to sales of soups (+15%) and roasting meats (+52%) seeing gains.

Total sales at the retailer, excluding fuel, were 1.8% higher than the same week last year​.

‘Elsewhere, shoppers took the opportunity of our kitchen and home event to freshen up the house with essentials - sales of the range as a whole were up by 15% for the week, a Waitrose statement said.
