Schwarz Group Announces Support For STOP Ocean Plastic Initiative

Schwarz Group has announced its support for STOP (Stop Ocean Plastic), which seeks to tackle the issue of plastic waste, which is a global problem and presents a serious threat for Asian countries.

The Lidl and Kaufland owner is supporting STOP as a technical partner.

STOP is an initiative to prevent plastic waste in the oceans, especially off the coast of Southeast Asia.

It works in particular with municipalities in Indonesia to develop efficient waste disposal systems. Schwarz Group is the first grocery retailer to support this initiative.

In addition, large companies, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian authorities have announced their support for the project.

Current Projects

STOP is building a waste management system by supporting cities and communities with technical expertise and knowledge transfer, and it also aims to create benefits for the local population, including jobs.

After launching the first project on Java, STOP plans to establish two more projects this year.

REset Plastic

Schwarz Group recently developed the strategy REset Plastic, and sees its partnership with STOP as part of this strategy as well.

"With our plastic strategy, we are establishing a new way of thinking for a clean tomorrow", explains Thomas Kyriakis, head of Schwarz Group central services.

REset Plastic encompasses prevention, design, recycling, disposal, innovation and education, the group said.
