Architecture Firms Make Shortlist To Renovate Sanpellegrino Factory

Netherlands-based MVRDV and New York and Copenhagen’s BIG have made it to the shortlist to redesign the flagship factory of water brand Sanpellegrino. The architecture companies were chosen by a panel of judges in San Pellegrino, Terme, Italy.

The two companies will now enter the final round of the competition, where they will further develop their plans for the project.

The judging panel includes Marco Settembri, executive vice-president of Nestlé SA, head of Nestlé Waters; Magdi Batato, executive vice-president of Nestlé SA, head of operations; Stefano Agostini, president and CEO of Sanpellegrino SpA, Nestlé Waters Italy; and international personalities such as Edwin Heathcote, architecture and design critic of the Financial Times. The panel was coordinated by Professor Luca Molinari, an architecture consultant and curator.

“All contenders presented highly innovative and technologically advanced solutions that demonstrated profound coherence of Sanpellegrino's values and tradition, making it extremely difficult to determine a single winner,” said Stefano Agostini.

“Thus, the judging committee collectively decided to establish a second phase of the competition, where shortlisted firms could elaborate on their plans for our new flagship factory. On behalf of Sanpellegrino, we’d like to thank all four participants for sharing their thoughtful proposals and artistic visions.”
