Italy’s Bauli Opens Croissant Factory In India

Italian baked goods manufacturer Bauli has opened a new croissant factory in India, its first production facility outside of Italy.

The initial investment in the factory, located in Baramati, is €34 million, and is the first part of a five-year plan that foresees a total investment of €80 million, reports Verona Sera.

The Verona-based company has been present in India since 2009, where it has a joint venture with Dream Bake.

According to CEO Stefano Zancan, Bauli plans to make India its second largest market in the next three years, after Italy.

The new plant is currently able to produce 12,000 tonnes of croissants, growing to a capacity of 17,000 tonnes when it is fully operational.

Bauli is present in 70 countries with about 200 products, but the company is always developing new references.

"The biscuit market is very saturated," added Zancan. "We are thinking of launching 'soft sweets' next year, but we will also look at other products possibly in the savoury segment."
