Nestlé To Step Up Pet Food Production In The US And Australia

Nestlé Purina has announced plans to expand its pet food production facility in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

The company plans to add new processing and packaging lines in its Mechanicsburg production unit and hire around 94 additional employees.

The Mechanicsburg factory manufactures many of the company’s flagship brands, including Purina ONE, Purina Pro Plan, Fancy Feast, Dog Chow and Cat Chow.

Purina has pledged to invest more than $167 million (€140.8 million) into the project within the next three years, the company added.

'High-Quality' Pet Food

John Bear, vice president of manufacturing at Purina, stated, "Purina is proud to make high-quality food for dogs and cats at our Mechanicsburg factory with a continued commitment to safety and environmental sustainability.

“This expansion reflects an investment in our local operations, and we look forward to continuing to deliver innovative and highly nutritious foods for pets."

Currently, Purina employs 320 people in Mechanicsburg and also operates a pet food factory in Allentown in Pennsylvania.

Expansion In Australia

Elsewhere, Nestlé Australia is to invest AUD 90 million (€54.6 million) to upgrade its factory in Blayney in New South Wales, which manufactures Nestlé Purina PetCare pet food.

The funds will be used to expand existing production areas and install new equipment to step up production capacity, the company added.

The factory in Blayney commenced operations in 1989 and is responsible for manufacturing brands such as Proplan, Supercoat, Felix, Fancy Feast and Purina ONE.

Nestlé has spent approximately AUD 200 million on this factory including the latest investment.
