Thanksgiving Provides Boost In Turkey Sales At Waitrose

Upmarket retailer Waitrose has said that the adoption of Thanksgiving as a holiday by consumers in the UK has led to an increase in turkey sales in November.

The retailer said that turkey orders were up nearly a third for the week leading up to Thanksgiving, which took place on 24 November.

‘The traditional American holiday is becoming increasingly popular here - either within families who have links to the United States, or with people who appreciate the opportunity to bring family and friends together,’ Waitrose said in a statement. ‘Recipe searches on Waitrose.com for pumpkin pie were up 134%, and we sold a third more pie cases last week, as many chose to bake the pudding traditionally associated with the occasion.’

Overall sales for the week were up 1.3% compared to lsat year, with beers, wines and spirits seeing a 4.5% increase.
