Greek food exports rose by more than €400 million last year, to €5.43 billion, according to new data by the Panhellenic Exporters’ Association.

Exports in 2017 stood at €5.08 billion, the association reported.

According to news portal Greek Reporter, Greek virgin olive oil totalled €530 million in exports last year, recording a year-on-year increase of €117 million, due to increased consumption in the Italian market.

Cheese products and olives were the second and third fastest-growing categories in terms of export value, the data showed, while Greek seafood, peaches, yoghurt and oranges were also big movers.

Italy was the biggest purchaser of Greek food products in 2018, followed by Germany, the UK and the US.
