Dansk Supermarked Unveils New Digital Director

Danish retail company Dansk Supermarked has announced the appointment of Claus H. Andersen as its new digital director.

Andersen previously worked as general manager for the media company Nordjyske Medier, and as managing director at the daily broadsheet newspaper Morgenavisen Jullands Posten.

He will take over on 1 December from Toke Lund, who has decided to leave the company for personal reasons, according to the retailer.

Andersen’s upcoming tasks will focus on accelerating the digital side of the Dansk Supermarked, which has been identified as one of the four core areas of the retailers 2022 strategy.

“The Danish Supermarket Group has set the barrel high in all contexts to be relevant to customers, in particular digitally,” said Andersen. “The company is in contact with many consumers every day and there is still a huge potential for it to develop its digital interface. I look forward to contributing to making the experience both better and easier for the customers.”

Online Competition

The Danish company has recently been expanding its online retail platform Wupti, first unveiled in April, to offer a range of over 60,000 products as of last June.

The platform was launched to rival international online giants like Amazon and Alibaba while offering a platform specifically for Danish retailers.

"The digital platforms have become a key business area for us, and we need to have customers all the way,” said Kenneth Nielsen, executive vice president of e-commerce and digital of Dansk Supermarked Group. “Claus comes with a strong digital understanding, many years of management experience and strong references from his previous jobs that he can use to continue the work and provide the digital injection needed to meet our customers.”

“Toke deserves great recognition and gratitude for his efforts. He has, as an extremely competent leader in digital development and operations, helped lift us to where we are today. With his strong profile and competencies, he still has a bright future in the industry, and, of course, he will always be welcome back to the Dansk Supermarked Group,” he added.

At the beginning of November, Salling Fondene reported that after 50 years of joint ownership they were to become the sole owner of Dansk Supermarked Group by the end of the year, after buying the remaining shares from AP Møller-Mærsk.
