Spirits giant Diageo has announced the appointment of Melissa Bethell as a non-executive director to its board, effective 30 June.
She will also join the audit, nomination and remuneration committees, the company added.
Presently, Bethell serves as the managing partner of Atairos Europe, an investment firm backed by Comcast NBC Universal.
She is also a non-executive director at Tesco plc and Exor (EXO.MI), a listed holding company for the Agnelli family.
She served as a non-executive director on the board of the Luxembourg-based company Atento until November 2018.
Chairman of Diageo, Javier Ferrán, welcomed Bethell to the company and added, “I am confident that, with her background and broad range of experience, she will bring unique insight and expertise to the board’s deliberations, which will benefit the board and the business as we progress to achieving our ambition to become one of the most trusted and respected consumer products companies in the world.”
'An Experienced Professional'
Bethell is an experienced professional who worked in the global private equity firm Bain Capital for more than 18 years.
She held several roles including that of senior advisor and managing director of private equity.
Bethell was also a member of the company’s senior leadership team, where she was responsible for strategy setting, fundraising and portfolio management.
Before joining Bain Capital she worked as an analyst in the Fixed Income Capital Markets group at Goldman Sachs.
