Tesco Anticipating Bumper Euro 2016 Drinks Sales

UK retailer Tesco is expecting to sell more than 120 million bottles and cans of beer, 8 million bottles of wine, and 29 million packets of crisps over the four weeks of Euro 2016, which kicked off this week in Paris.

The group said that it is also anticipating more than 100,000 bottles of champagne to be sold, as well as around 5.5 million pizzas, at its stores across the UK.

“With summer around the corner and the excitement of Euro 2016 taking place for the next month, there will be a real party atmosphere across the country," said Tesco beer, wines and spirits category director Gavin Warburton.

“We’re already seeing rising demand for food and drink in advance of the home teams playing their first matches, and have ordered in extra supplies to make sure Britain doesn’t run dry.”

Tesco expects lager to be the drink of choice for most football fans during the tournament.
