Carrefour Sells Shampoo Bottles Made From Collected Plastic

French retailer Carrefour has announced that it is now selling Head & Shoulders shampoo products in bottles that are partially made from plastic collected on beaches.

This waste material accounts for up to 25% of the packaging, the retailer says. In total, approximately 150,000 bottles will be sold exclusively in Carrefour hypermarkets and Carrefour Market stores.

Environmental Objectives

The object of the initiative is to generate awareness of waste and of sustainability, as well as the importance of respecting the seas and oceans.

Carrefour says that the aim of this project is to 'educate customers in good sorting practices, encouraging them to more effectively sort different types of packaging with a view to recycling them’.

The retailer added that 'optimising resources and eco-designing packaging while reducing the quantities of plastic used so as to generate less waste are among Carrefour's priority environmental objectives'.
