Pepsi Raises Awareness For Beverage Can Recycling In Austria

Soft drinks brand Pepsi is raising awareness for beverage can recycling in Austria under the 'every can counts' campaign.

The initiative for beverage can recycling known as "jede Dose zaehlt" - every can counts - is motivating consumers in Austria to collect and recycle their empty beverage cans properly - ensuring the valuable metal stays within the material circulation and can be reused infinitely.

The campaign started successfully in 2010 and was well received by consumers.

Now, for the first time, the logo of "jede Dose zaehlt" is featured on the cans themselves.

In partnership with the soft drinks giant, the emblem “please recycle” is imprinted exclusively on Pepsi cans, as well as Seven Up cans.

Pepsi and "jede Dose zaehlt" are hoping to motivate young people, especially at festivals and sports events, to collect their empty beverage cans for recycling.

Waste separation is a matter of course in Austria and the possibilities to dispose of metal are extensive. Dorothea Junk, founder of the Austrian initiative, welcomed the active commitment of Pepsi by saying, "Jede Dose zaehlt has been engaged for 7 years in motivating Austrians to recycle beverage cans properly. Because every can, whether made from aluminium or tinplate, is 100 per cent recyclable and can be reused infinitely."

It is the most recycled beverage container worldwide, she said.

"Practical, space-saving, and environmentally friendly. We are overjoyed that Pepsi actively shares and supports our initiative and has agreed to become the first beverage company in Austria to print our logo on its products."

A spokesperson for Pepsi Austria commented, "For Pepsi Cola, it is self-evident that we have to take responsibility for the environment, resources and energy use, as well as for future generations. Consequently we are proud to be a pioneer in this field in Austria."

Through the cooperation with “jede Dose zaehlt” Pepsi Cola is building awareness for beverage can recycling with Pepsi Cola's goal being "to explain this subject, and most of all, to motivate young consumers to collect their empty cans for recycling".
