Pernod Ricard Brazil Begins Using 'Eco' Bottle Caps

All of Pernod Ricard Brazil’s indigenous drink brands will now be bottled using ecologically-sound bottle caps, as part of an initiative which commenced in February.

The French drinks company uses ethanol derived from sugarcane to produce the caps, as opposed to the petroleum-based caps that were used in the past.

The packaging change was implemented at first in the cases of rum brand Montilla and vodka brand Orloff, though its other Brazilian brands – Natu Nobilis, Wall Street, Sao Francisco and Janeiro – are also now bottled in this way.

‘Together these brands represent approximately 38 million bottles, i.e. 3.2 million nine-litre cases as of 30 June 2016,’ Pernod said in a statement.

‘In their first year, eco-designed bottle tops have already reduced carbon footprint by preventing approximately 600 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. The change of bottle top material has had absolutely no impact on the product's quality or appearance.’
