Cherkizovo Group Sees 38% Volume Boost From Exports In 2019

Russia’s largest meat producer, Cherkizovo Group, which manufactures the Petelinka and Cherkizovo brands, reported a 38% increase in global exports in 2019, leading to a 78% increase in overseas sales.

In 2019, the Cherkizovo Group exported 50,000 tonnes, up 38% from the previous year.

The increase was mostly driven by growth in the poultry market, which recorded a 50% increase to 34,000 tonnes following an agreement with China last year to open its market to Russian companies.

The Chinese market accounted for over 40%, or 14,000 tonnes, of the company’s poultry exports.

“The green light given to Russian poultry by China has been a major factor in the rise of Cherkizovo’s exports. A number of lucrative contracts were signed with Chinese partners in 2019, allowing Russian companies to supply a wide range of poultry products,” said Andrei Terekhin, Head of Exports at Trading Company Cherkizovo.

Despite a 35% increase in pork exports to 11,000 tonnes, turkey export volumes shrank by 10% to 1,500 tonnes and sausage exports plateaued, remaining at their 2018 level of 4,000 tonnes.

Export Revenue

The company's revenue from exports grew 78% to RUB 5.7 billion (€80 million), the company said.

Chicken sales saw a 131% increase to RUB 3.8 billion ( €53 million), turkey sales increased 33% to RUB 0.2 billion (€2.8 million), pork sales increased 25% to RUB 1.3 billion (€18 million), while sausage sales brought in RUB 0.4 billion (€5.6 million), representing a 12% increase on the same time last year.
