Lidl Spain Exports 80% Of Fruit Buys

The Spanish arm of Lidl reportedly purchased products from the Iberian food industry for a value of €3 billion in 2014, with half of this total exported.

As reported by greenmed.eu, Miguel Paradela, senior purchasing manager at Lidl Spain, said the chain created a positive turnover of more than €1.1 billion, adding that “the company purchases food products in Spain and then sells them to other countries in the EU".

There are concerns in relation to the Iberian fruit and vegetables sector, given that Lidl buys more than one million tonnes of Spanish fruit and vegetables - over six per cent of the national production - however it exports 80 per cent of this total.

The financing director of Lidl Spain, Ferran Figuera, added that the company has invested €1 billion in Spain since 2008 and estimates to spend an additional 200 millions in 2015 to open 40 new stores.

In 2014, Lidl Spain opened 21 new stores and started the building of its 10th distribution centre in Madrid.
