Metro Group Extends Partnership With Tafel Food Banks

Metro Group has announced that it will further extend its partnership with Tafel Food Bank by three years (2018-2020). The announcement was made at a reception held on 22 September.

The year 2016 marks a ten year anniversary between Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V. and Metro Group.

Metro Group is the main financial sponsor of the German Food Bank Federation Deutsche Tafel e.V. and has been supporting the federation since January 2006.

Metro Cash and Carry and Real have been donating food to the banks for over 20 years. Donations must be of good quality but have simply passed their sell-by date.

Heiko Hutmacher, member of the management board and chief human resources officer of Metro AG, commented: "Retail is a sector that contributes to social cohesion and we at Metro Group live up to our responsibilities as a corporate citizen.


"That is why we are happy and proud that our partnership with the German Federation of the Tafel food banks has been so successful. This is also evident from the fact that our employees, through their personal engagement, organise activities that invite our staff members to get actively involved."

Metro Group generated sales of €59 billion in the financial year 2014/2015 and operates in 2,000 locations in 29 countries.
