Germany's Tegut Reports Turnover Of €1.25bn In 2021

German retailer Tegut has reported a turnover of €1.25 billion in its financial year 2021, marginally down (0.46%) on the turnover recorded the preceding year.

Commenting on its performance, managing director Thomas Gutberlet said, "This result makes us feel that our customers trust us. […] Many things that were previously taken for granted in the lives of our customers have changed, or are in a state of upheaval."

The retailer’s share of organic product sales increased marginally to 30.47% in 2021, up from 30.13% in 2020.

Highlights Of 2021

Tegut expanded operations in its classic brick-and-mortar retail business in 2021, opening new stores in Bad Nauheim, Erlangen and Offenbach. It closed the year with a total of 296 stores.

It also continued to expand its online business in collaboration with Amazon, allowing customers in the greater Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Würzburg, Kassel, Marburg and Gießen areas to order food online and have it delivered to their home on the same day.

Logistics Investment

In September of last year, Tegut laid the foundations for its new logistics centre in Michelsrombach, outside Fulda. The facility will enable the retailer to cope with the logistical challenges of its ongoing expansion.

The logistics centre will feature a state-of-the-art central warehouse with 38,000 pallet spaces for the management and delivery of 17,000 products by over 800 employees.

In 2021, the retailer won the ‘Store of the Year’ award from the German Retail Association, and recently bagged the ’Sustainability Design’ award for its tegut ... teo concept. It also launched a new format QUARTIER in March 2021 and plans to expand the concept during the year.

Tegut will celebrate its 75th anniversary this year.

Gutberlet added, “On this occasion, our customers can look forward to many anniversary campaigns throughout the entire network, from tastings and summer parties for the whole family, through to attractive competitions and hands-on activities, to great anniversary offers.”
