Colombian Coffee Production Increased By 7% In February 2016

The Colombian Coffee Growers Federation revealed that production of Colombian coffee had increased by 7 per cent in February, compared to the same month last year, and that exports grew by 5 per cent in the same period.

This means that the country produced an extra 67,000 bags of coffee (weighing 60 kilos each) in February 2016. This includes beans that were harvested in the last trimester of 2015 but reached the collection centre recently.

Exports increased by 48,000 coffee bags; and between March 2015 and February 2016, the volume of coffee harvested grew by 16 per cent.

Nevertheless, the Federation is still on alert due to the threat of weather phenomenon El Niño. They are about to conclude a field study of 7.000 plantations that aims to become a reference for producers, especially those seriously affected by El Niño.

Colombia is the world's biggest producer of  popular mild washed arabica coffee.
