BRT Launches New Fresh Food Delivery Service In Italy

Italian delivery company BRT has launched a new service specialising in the delivery of fresh food products.

BRT Fresh is currently available in Milan, Rome, and Padua, and will be expanded to Bologna and Turin by the end of 2023. BRT added that it plans to cover all major Italian cities within the next two years.

BRT Fresh aims to become the leading national fresh food delivery operator in Italy. The company has a widespread presence throughout Italy, with over 200 branches, 35 parcel hubs, 13 messaging hubs, 10 logistics plants, and over 7,500 collection points.

BRT is also investing in sustainable logistics with a fleet of 1,400 low-emission vehicles, including electric, pedal-assisted, and methane vehicles.

Bologna-based BRT is owned by Geopost group (France’s La Poste Group), a company specialising in controlled temperature deliveries in Europe.

BRT Fresh offers a number of features that are designed to ensure that fresh food products are delivered to customers in optimal condition.

These include delivery six days a week, with same-day delivery for local orders; pre-determination of the time slot; delivery to the floor; continuous monitoring of the cold chain; and the use of dedicated refrigerated vans or specially made isothermal containers for the last mile.

BRT also claims that the new service will help SMEs and artisans to export their products to other European countries.

Fresh food is the most popular category of online food purchases in Italy, accounting for 50% of all sales in 2022. The value of the fresh food online grocery market in Italy was €4.8 billion in 2022, and it grew by 17% compared to the previous year, according to the B2C eCommerce Observatory of the Polytechnic University of Milan.

Simone Vicentini, chief business development officer at BRT added, "With this new service, BRT is ready to offer a quality shipping experience, ensuring the ideal temperature throughout the distribution chain.

"BRT fresh is an innovation that goes beyond logistics, it will allow the creation of new business opportunities for many companies in the food sector, regardless of their size, enabling them to reinvent the way they propose their excellence directly to consumers and in new markets."
