Top 5 Retailer Christmas Ads 2022 – As Voted By You!

Earlier this month, we put out the call to ESM readers to vote for their favourite retailer Christmas ad, and we received a phenomenal response, with thousands of you logging in to vote for your festive champion.

The results have been calculated, and ESM can exclusively reveal the top five retailer Christmas ads of 2022, as voted by YOU.

1. SPAR (Ireland)

Leading the way this year, and following on from a popular campaign that it launched in 2012, SPAR Ireland’s ‘Finding Christmas’ commercial showcases how Christmas can appear in various aspects of our daily lives.

SPAR went to great lengths to ensure that its updated ad was as impactful as its predecessor – according to the retailer, the girls in the café scene were originally featured as schoolgirls in the original short; some 100 metres of green silk were used to wrap the 'Wonderful Barn' (located in Celbridge, County Kildare) as a Christmas tree; and real-life drone pilots were used to create the lighthouse tree, including an 11-year-old, who is the youngest licensed drone racing pilot in Ireland.

Congratulations to SPAR Ireland for being named Europe's favourite retailer Christmas ad for 2022!

2. Pingo Doce (Portugal)

In second place this year, Portuguese retailer Pingo Doce has penned a new, original song, Natal, for its Christmas campaign, which underlines the importance of sharing festive moments together.

3. Rohlik Group/ (Germany)

Ranking third in our festive countdown is this commercial from, which is operated by Rohlik Group. It shows how Christmas shopping can be more convenient when conducted online... although one particular shopping trolley isn’t all that happy about it.

4. Lidl (UK)

In fourth place, Lidl UK's commercial features the ‘Lidl Bear’, who becomes an unexpected Christmas celebrity who gets consumed by fame.

5. Aldi (UK)

Ranking fifth, Aldi’s popular Kevin the Carrot returns in a recreation of the classic movie Home Alone, highlighting the importance of being together on Christmas. The ad is a continuation from the Feast of Football campaign, which was released to coincide with the World Cup.

Congratulations to all this year's contenders – and Merry Christmas!
