Lidl's Private Label Rated 'Best In Germany'

Lidl's private label selection has been rated the 'best quality' available on the German market, according to statistics recently published by digital consumer magazine Vergleich.org.

Based on the results of 60 assessments carried out by Vergleich in conjunction with Stiftung Warentest, Lidl was rated best, with the discounter receiving a score of 2.49 - the lower the score the better. Aldi Nord scored 2.56 to place second, and Rewe (2,61) came third.

Other retailer scores included 2.62 for Penny, 2.66 for Edeka, 2.78 for Aldi Sued, 2.90 for Netto and 2.99 for Real.

According to Nielsen data, the market share of private label products sold in German supermarkets has increased since 2009 by more than 6%.

"Currently, the figure is more than 34% - and if you believe the forecasts, it will continue to grow strongly," said Vergleich.org.
